Let’s make Quick & Easy Pickled Red Onions!

Have you ever tried Pickled Red Onions!? 

They are the perfect addition to so many recipes! Add them to tacos, nachos, salads, pizzas or even burgers! 

Pickled Red Onions are perfectly tangy with a gentle sweetness that helps to round out any dish! The best part is… they are so freaking easy to make! With only 5 simple ingredients and very little prep work, they can be ready in just a few short hours. 

Trust me, you have got to try this recipe!!

Easy Pickled Red Onions

You will need 5 simple ingredients:

Red Onions

Obviously, you will need Red Onions 😉 Be sure to slice them as thin as possible. This allows the red onions to absorb the pickling liquid much easier so they are ready to eat faster.

Vinegar

Vinegar is essential when it comes to pickling anything. For this recipe I like to use red wine vinegar because it has a slightly sweeter flavour and also provides some colour. You could also use white vinegar, apple cider vinegar or any other vinegar of your choosing. A combination of different vinegars also works perfectly as well!

Water

Water is needed to create the perfect brine to pickle the red onions. It dilutes the vinegar just enough to give you a balanced pickling liquid.

Sugar

Some form of sweetener is needed to balance out the vinegar. I like to use granulated sugar, although you could use other sweeteners like honey or even add in some grenadine for sweetness and a beautiful pop of colour!

Salt

The addition of salt rounds out all of the flavours to create a perfectly balanced recipe!

Easy Pickled Red Onions


Ingredients:

1 large red onion, cut in half and finely sliced

3/4 cup red wine vinegar

3/4 cup water

3 tbsp sugar

2 tsp salt

Method

Add the red wine vinegar, water, sugar and salt into a sauce pan. Heat over medium heat until the sugar and salt have fully dissolved. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes.

Add the finely sliced red onions into a glass jar and pour in the pickling liquid. Seal with a lid and refrigerate for 5-24 hours before using.
