Fill your home with the warm and inviting scent of whole spices and citrus this fall!
The fall season is officially in full swing, which means pumpkin spice everything and cozy candles are a must! Naturally, I find myself stopping into Homesense or Nordstrom to pick up some seasonal candles to embrace this lovely time of year! However, recently I tried making a Homemade Simmer Pot, also known as Stovetop Potpourri to naturally infuse my home with the comforting scents of fall. Let me tell you, it filled my home with the most amazing smell in less than 10 minutes and lasted all day!
So you’re probably wondering, what exactly is a Simmer Pot?? Well, Simmer pots are basically a simmering pot of various citrus or fruits, whole spices and other things to naturally fill your house with comforting, amazing scents. I love how you can completely customize the scent you would like to achieve with the changing seasons. They also make lovely gifts over the holidays!
Homemade Simmer Pots are a great alternative to scented candles because they are completely natural and do not contain any harsh ingredients. Not to mention, they are also very easy to make!

What ingredients work wonderfully in a Simmer Pot…
When it comes to a Simmer Pot or Stovetop Potpourri, there are really no rules! You can use any combination of ingredients and get your home smelling amazing in about 5 minutes!
Because the fall season is in full swing, use this as inspiration for the scents you create with your simmer pot. Think fresh apple pie, mulled wine or spiced apple cider!
I always like to include one to three fresh produce or citrus forward ingredients. This could be anything from fresh apple slices to pieces of fresh ginger or cranberries! I then like to add a few different spices like cinnamon sticks and whole cloves. From there, if you like you can add in some fresh herbs like pine tree clippings from outside to rosemary sprigs or even some vanilla extract to really round out the fall scent you are trying to achieve.
